The blue of distance
I'm embarking on a photographic journey that explores the enigmatic spaces that exist 'betwixt and between.' Buses, airports, beaches – these are the places we collectively inhabit as strangers...
Heavily inspired by Rebecca Solnit's inspiring writing in: 'A Field Guide to Getting Lost,’ which features The Blue of Distance as a focus on place, emotion, getting lost and nostalgia (surprise surprise!). I set about documenting the anonymous world of the humble bus journey.
I’ve used the busiest (and most iconic) bus route in the UK, the 192 Stockport to Manchester, to reveal the stories and experiences of its passengers through photography and interviews. Here is a preview of the research so far…
'The places within which any significant event occurred become embedded with some of that emotion. Sometimes to revisit the place uncovers the emotion.”

‘Blue is the colour of longing for the distances you never arrive in, for the blue world.’
Rebecca Solnit, A Field Guide to Getting Lost, 2005.
The places we are from, the places we are now, and the places we go are maps of our past, present, and future. They are stories waiting to be told, landscapes filled with memories, and stages upon which our lives unfold.
