Yes, everything was on the cusp of discovery when we were teens. I love the passion for ghosts, otherworldliness, romance and music when we were kids -- all in the fast lane as though no one before us had ever felt a thing.

I do think of it often, and I’m sure I’ll visit again. I’d love to get inside there again...

Wow that’s wild. Can’t believe someone lives there now 🫣😨

Crazy isn’t it? And that it’s an Embassy. Totally shut off now, no one can get close because of the CCTV cameras and high fences.

I wonder if the spooks are haunting the Chinese.

There’s certainly some unsavoury activity going on there judging by recent news headlines…

We had similar formative experiences… Camel cigarettes, zippo lighter, the Smiths and REM… but no eyeliner! There was an abandoned school at the end of our lane but, unlike you, I didn’t have the bravery to go in. Reminds me of that melancholic Smiths song ‘Back to the Old House.’

Haha never too late to try the eyeliner, Andrew! It’s like the premise of a Stephen King move isn’t it -- that abandoned school/house/churchyard. Yes! And what a perfect song to soundtrack this post.

I could see you and your friends, full of bravado, getting into this place, manipulating the security guard! It was a really evocative piece. I especially liked the photographs - the house particularly bright, almost like pen and wash in the photograph. You captured the ethereal nature of the abandoned house, and your remembered past really well in word and picture. Brilliant.

Thanks so much, June, I always love your comments :) It's a time I often play in my head. I'm suprised I survived it with the things I got up to! With the image of the house, I tried to reproduce the skies and light I remember from back then.

It worked for me!

A beautiful place! I can imagine how amazing it looked abandoned. And that this place still lingers in you - I know that feeling... btw. Great taste in music - I listened to that stuff too! Did you do that watercolor painting? I love it!

Thanks so much, Susanne :) It’s a nice feeling to revisit the place. And, the music, oh the music 🎶 Makes the world go around doesn’t it! We had such a great music scene didn’t we!

I did paint the watercolour - this was my second attempt -- the perspective is shot 😆Thanks so much for reading :)
