Photo blog: the doors - unlocking elegance in the city of light
The world's prettiest doorways by a peeping Tom...
On a recent trip to Paris, I took more photos than I had intended (ha!) and experienced the city as it should be; a series of perfectly framed shots.
Each image epitomised the rich, warm vibrance of a place meant to be cinematically experienced from scene to scene – a movie unfolding before my eyes.
Perched on an oversized double bed layered with white linen in a Parisian apartment (that I could never afford during the peak season), I looked over my collection of images from each day and discovered a recurring theme…
The windows and doors of the city's streets.
The stolen glimpses behind curtains, the paused conversations over dinner, and even the secret sights of open fridge doors spied from the cobbled rues of the 9th arrondissement.

The captivating allure of hidden stories, secret lives within each frame and old wooden shutter. The ornate wrought-iron balconies adorned with colourful flowers, and the flickering candlelights through the glass doors within cosy bistros.
I've kept these photos in messy folders on my Mac, preserving the memories until today, when I finally decided to share them with you.
Through my camera lens, I became a silent observer, indulging in the pleasure of being a voyeur in a foreign place. It felt less strange and more like appreciating the intricacies of my surroundings rather than merely peeping from behind a creepy overcoat.
Such beauty in the most simple things. From Haussmann, art nouveau, gothic revival, art deco, renaissance, and modernist designs, there are stories of art and beauty in the every day, we just forget to appreciate them sometimes.
Oh these photos and your words, just wonderful! Can't wait to see and read more.
I have just binged on your writing and photography Nat, and this has made me so nostalgic! When I was 16 I went to stay with my BFF at her 23 year old's teeny tiny flat - the doors were one of the first things that seemed so worldly and sophisticated. Oh to be back in that flat dancing and drinking rose...
