Everything was deemed worthy of being beautiful wasn't it? Now, as you say, the emphasis is on functionality. In years to come, as Paris ages and the doors are replaced, there will be no memory of such ordinary aesthetic beauty. Shame.
I love the sense of intimacy and personality in these photos. Each door has its own long story to tell. The ones with graffiti were particularly intriguing to me, centuries old style with modern effacement. Thanks for sharing these!
Thanks, Marie x Yes, such beauty doesn't escape the attention of the graffitti artist. It's e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e. If you leave your car alone overnight, you can guarantee it'll be tagged with fresh paint by the next day. It doesn't matter which part of Paris you visit, it's part of the furniture. The graffitti in metro tunnels always surprises me.
I have just binged on your writing and photography Nat, and this has made me so nostalgic! When I was 16 I went to stay with my BFF at her 23 year old's teeny tiny flat - the doors were one of the first things that seemed so worldly and sophisticated. Oh to be back in that flat dancing and drinking rose...
Thanks so much, Laura, I hope you enjoyed it? I so miss it. Nostalgia is like heroin for old people -- the perfect quote for me :) I love your memory. The Doors; such a sophisticated band for teenagers to enjoy as well did.

Great idea. Beautiful
Thanks, George :)
Portals--for some of us, entrances to our everyday lives; for others, to a world we can only dream of.
Beautiful light and colors...
Yes, portals to another existence.

Great series and how fun!
Thanks, Charlie, I didn't realise I was capturing so many of them until half way thorugh my week there. After that, I made a point of it :)
Were you once a member of a famous Rock Band (in a former life?). 😉
Love the photo’s! 💕
Thanks so much, Dorinda! Haha I wish :) We did visit Jim's grave too. I am a Doors fan (musically and for entering buildings ;)
These are great, Nat! It couldn't be anywhere else!
Thanks, June! I have a whole 'windows' series as well 😆
