June was a final d-e-e-p breath before being dunked into the madness of July and all the crazy end-of-school stuff.
From last-minute costume demands (where the hell do I get a Tin Man costume with 12 hours’ notice?) to sports day and end-of-year prom, new car, house hunting and logistics of spinning my freelance plates.
From experience, I can honestly say that having kids is like running a small business that’s burning to the ground while you’re wearing a vest made from matches.
Feeling panicked? Me too!
On a calmer note, I’ve finally snatched five minutes to download and edit photos from my camera. They'll wither away in an album if I don’t do it now.
I thought it would be a good addition to Thought Jam — and a way to keep my writing alive between main posts — by featuring a monthly round-up of photos.
So welcome to June’s round-up…
1. A hidden face in the window of this shop on a trip to Stockport (did you spot him?). Underbank is my favourite part of the town; I have so many memories of being a teenager around these parts. 2. Get ready, Freddie. This one is from the Colour Festival installation in Salford. Pretty expensive for the time spent looking around but some incredible large-scale art in there.
1. Winachi singer Liam, at the Warrington Music Festival. I spent the evening in the photo pit practising my live photography skills in a maxi dress (worst choice ever for pit photography = lesson learned). 2. Do you believe in love? I love ghost signs that tell the stories of places in ancient times. This one competes with Mr Mobile. 3. My lunchtime walk at a client's office. Lucky to have such beautiful pathways to explore. 4. The shadows in my living room are among the most beautiful I've ever seen. I will miss these when we leave this house.
1. Coldplay and a mesmerising ocean of mobile phone lights — initially cheesy in my mind but astonishingly captivating in reality. The production of this gig was phenomenal. 2. Levenshulme Train Station and The Street With No Name. What better name for it? 3. More lunchtime walks with a podcast/music to escape the buzz and hustle of work. Always.Take.A.Break. 4. Dappled sunshiiine. That first breath of air in the morning and the glittering summer paths
1. Liverpool Playhouse - great venue doing wonderful things for fringe theatre and Northern writers. 2. Stockport Library - I would spend hours in here as a kid researching black magic and other wholesome subjects. 3. More of Stockport Underbank and the fabulous artwork there. The street art is so incredibly vivid, I had to portray it in B&W. 4. A sudden torrential downpour on Chorlton's streets, as we huddled under the canopy of a tapas joint with best friends.
Do let me know what you think — I’m still deciphering whether to focus more on imagery, words or a combo so your comments are appreciated
